Sage to Discontinue StarShip Products

As of March 31, 2011, Sage will no longer sell V-Technologies’ StarShip Parcel and StarShip Freight products for Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200, Sage ERP MAS 500, Sage BusinessWorks, or Sage PFW.
Sage will continue to support the StarShip Link (developed by Sage) for on-plan customers who are on currently supported versions of Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200, and StarShip Parcel version 10.1.1 and earlier (per the Sage MAS 90 and 200 Supported Versions document). Please note that the StarShip Link will not be included in Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200 Version 4.5. Customers who have a current maintenance or support plan that extends past August 31, 2011, and includes StarShip will have their next year’s maintenance or support plan extended for a pro-rated period, based on the remaining period of support for StarShip Link.
As an alternative to the StarShip Link, V-Technologies offers a Business Object Interface integration to Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200. While the workflow is different with the Business Object Interface, the connection between StarShip Parcel and Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200 remains. For inquiries about their StarShip Business Object Interface integration, please contact us.
In addition, V-Technologies will continue to provide maintenance and support for the StarShip Freight and StarShip Parcel products for Sage customers who are enrolled in a StarShip support plan with them.
Please contact us with any specific questions about your Starship installation and what this means for you.

There’s really not that much change as V-Technologies was already supplying upgrades directly and has started to move away from the Starship link interface in favor of Business Objects.
The only portion of the product that Sage still sold was the Starship Link between MAS and Starship — the other parts — product, annual maintenance and support was all sold by V-Technologies for quite some time.

Indeed, this shouldn’t impact Starship support, annual maintenance, or rate table updates for existing users of Starship and MAS 90 or MAS 200.
However, it just sends a conflicting and potentially negative message from Sage. I think Sage could have done a better job communicating what this announcement means, and they even could have figured out a way to frame it in a positive way.

As a Sage MAS 200 and StarShip user, this is not welcome news.
Will I receive January 2012 carrier price changes as part of the pro-rated support?
What are my options if not?
Just another project to budget for in 2011?
